I’m writing to share some good news that also signals important shifts in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Willa Cather Archive. As many of you know, this digital project has been around for some time, and I have been the editor since 2005. Very recently I accepted a new administrative role in the UNL Libraries, and with that new role, I’ll be stepping away from leadership of the Cather Archive.
I’m pleased to announce that Emily Rau is, as of April 1, serving as Editor of the Willa Cather Archive. Emily was recently appointed an Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities in the UNL Libraries with responsibility for leadership of the project. Many of you know her already: she has worked at the Cather Archive since 2014 and has, for the last few years, served as Managing Editor of the site. Emily, who completed a PhD in American literature in 2021, is also a co-leader of the Recovery Hub of American Women Writers and has a range of impressive experience in literary research and digital project leadership.
My UNL colleague Melissa Homestead and I will both be Advisory Editors of the Cather Archive going forward. As we finish our major project The Complete Letters of Willa Cather in the next year, we are excited about the new places Emily will lead us.
Thanks for all the terrific support and encouragement you’ve given me in my role as editor of the Cather Archive over the last several years. I know this wonderful community will do the same for Emily in the role.
Best,
Andy
